Ingredients

Hibiscus Simple Syrup

Cocktail

  • 2 oz tequila
  • ¾ oz hibiscus simple syrup
  • ¾ oz lime juice

Instructions

Hibiscus Syrup

  • Prepare the simple syrup first. Place one cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add hibiscus tea. Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags and add one cup of sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let the syrup cool completely. Then transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
If using dried hibiscus petals, use a fine mesh sieve to strain out the tea.

Cocktail

  • Add hibiscus simple syrup, tequila, and lime juice to a shaker or cocktail glass with ice cubes. Place the lid on the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously (stir if using a cocktail glass).
  • Strain liquid into a coupe glass. Garnish the hibiscus tequila cocktail with a lime wheel or lime wedge.

Notes

To store syrup: Cool syrup to room temperature. Transfer hibiscus syrup to an airtight container, bottle with a lid, or mason jar. Store in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
Variations: Instead of serving this hibiscus cocktail recipe straight up, serve it in a Collins glass over fresh ice. Top with club soda if desired.
Make this a mezcal cocktail with hibiscus by swapping out tequila for mezcal.
