Ingredients and substitutions
Here are a few quick notes about the ingredients in this recipe. You can see a complete list of ingredients and instructions in the recipe card below.
Almond flour - Use blanched almond flour and not almond meal. Otherwise, the consistency will not turn out the same.
Cashew butter - With the combination of almond flour and cashew butter, these easy treats can also qualify as protein balls. Almond butter or sun butter would make the best cashew butter substitutes for this recipe, as they both have a more neutral flavor.
Maple syrup - This unrefined sweetener helps bind these easy brownie balls. Honey (not vegan) is a great maple syrup substitute if you need an alternative.
Unsweetened cocoa powder - This ingredient gives these bites a homemade brownie flavor.
Pure vanilla extract - This small but mighty ingredient pulls everything together.

Variations
You can change up the flavor profile by using different types of nut butter.
- Hazelnut butter - for a Ferrero Rocher flavor!
- Peanut butter - for a peanut butter brownie flavor!
- Coconut butter - for an Almond joy flavor!
How to make brownie balls
Step 1: Combine all ingredients except chocolate chips in a mixing bowl. Stir until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips.
Step 2: Scoop the dough with a tablespoon and roll it into balls. Place the balls in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator. If you are layering bites on top of each other, divide them with parchment paper to avoid sticking.
Recipe tip
I like keeping these in the refrigerator for a longer shelf life. They are a great treat to prep for the week!
FAQs
