Oats and fruit in glass mason jars.

There is comfort in a warm bowl of oatmeal. Having a heart-healthy option isn't such a bad thing either.

But for the work and school week, cooking up a batch of stovetop oatmeal might require more time than you have. This is where pre-made instant oatmeal saves the day.

    Ingredients for Easy Oatmeal

Now, if you grew up eating those flavored instant oatmeal packets, this healthier version will be right up your alley.

Here are the major ingredients you will need:

    • Gluten-free quick cooking oats
    • Coconut sugar or maple sugar
    • Unsweetened almond milk or other dairy-free milk

To customize flavors, here are the three versions you'll find in this recipe.

    Maple and Brown Sugar

    • Ground flaxseed
    • Maple syrup (optional)

    Strawberries and Cream

    • Ground cinnamon
    • Freeze dried strawberries

    Apples and Cinnamon

    • Ground cinnamon
    • Dried apples

You can also naturally sweeten your oatmeal with date paste! Just swirl in with your chosen milk.

    How to Make Instant Oatmeal

The recipe below makes one serving. But the beauty is that you can prep several servings to grab during the week. Just add milk or water!

    1. Add oats, coconut sugar, and optional dry ingredients in a mason jar or bowl.
    2. Add milk of choice or water and stir.
    3. Heat in the microwave for one minute.
    4. Add additional milk or garnishes if desired.

What do you store your instant oatmeal in?

Mason jars are the perfect vessels for prepping and storing your instant oat mix.

Don't have mason jars? Ziplock baggies work well too. Just transfer contents of the baggie to a small microwave-safe bowl before cooking.

    Brands with Instant Oats

It is pretty easy now to find gluten-free rolled oats in most grocery stores or on Amazon. But for this recipe, quick-cooking instant oats are best. Here are some brands that carry gluten-free quick-cooking oats.

    • Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Quick Cooking Rolled Oats
    • Quaker Gluten-Free Quick Oats

Thank you for sharing! I love oatmeal but rarely make it because I feel rushed and don’t take the time to make myself a nutritious breakfast. Now I have no excuse to skip breakfast!
