Ingredients and substitutions
Here are a few quick notes about the ingredients in this recipe. You can see a complete list of ingredients and instructions in the recipe card below.
Dairy-free Greek yogurt - Choose the non-dairy plain and unsweetened yogurt of your choice.
Full-fat coconut milk - Canned full-fat coconut milk is best. Unsweetened coconut milk from a carton will work too.
Other non-dairy milk like unsweetened almond milk or soy milk can be substituted. These different plant-based milk options won't be as rich and creamy as coconut milk. You may want to start with less and add more for the preferred thickness.
Fresh lemon juice - When added to the dairy-free yogurt, the tart acid from lemon juice creates a buttermilk-like tanginess.
Apple cider vinegar - This ingredient also adds a sweet tangy flavor.
Dried dill, chives, and parsley - Dried herbs make things quick and easy but feel free to use fresh herbs.
Onion powder, garlic powder, and ground black pepper - These spices round out the flavors and are often found in the spice cabinet.
